Delegates from beyond South Africa will be given two free days of excursions and educational visits in
the area. The Kenton Education Conference follows the SACHES conference on 05 to 08 November
2009, making it possible for delegates to attend two consecutive education conferences in the
Winelands Region.
The theme of the conference is “Education for Development in Hard Times” has a broad theme, to
include the role of key stakeholders in educational development in Africa and beyond – to include
academia, policymakers, teacher education, teachers unions, education departments, NGOs and
other civil society structures.
The format of the conference will include full length papers, workshops, panel discussions, symposia,
round table discussions and poster presentations. Abstracts of papers (max. 350 words) can be
submitted to the conference organizers, Prof. Harold Herman and Jo-Anne Adams-Underhill. The
deadline for proposals is 30 September 2009.
Local and international scholars and agencies in the field of Comparative, International, Development
Education, History and Sociology of Education are invited to attend and participate in sub-themes
which will include, inter alia, education and economic austerity, development agencies, language of
teaching and learning, teacher education policy and practice.
